Surrounded by Beauty

San Gimignano

San Gimignano is one of the best examples of a medieval town in Tuscany, a UNESCO World Heritage site famed for its iconic skyline adorned with ancient towers.  It has incredible views, world award-winning gelato, amazing restaurants and great wine tasting of its unique Vernaccia white wine.   It's only a 20 min drive, 2.5 hour scenic walk, or 1.5 hour horse ride though vineyards and countryside from our house.

Volterra

Less busy than its cousin, San Gimignano, but equally impressive, Volterra is a captivating Etruscan town known for its rich history and unique cultural heritage. Renowned for its well-preserved ancient ruins, medieval architecture, and alabaster craftsmanship, Volterra offers visitors a glimpse into Italy's storied past and artistic traditions.  Great lunch or cocktail places and amazing views.  It is a 30 min drive though quintessentially Tuscany countryside.  The journey is almost as good as the destination!

Certaldo Alto

Just 15 minutes drive away,  Certaldo Alto is famous for its medieval architecture and connection to the renowned poet Giovanni Boccaccio.  A very quaint town, that is accessed from the main square, up the hill, by a short tram ride.  Off the beaten path, you will not see many tourists here, but mostly locals enjoying the amazing restaurants and views.  Our favourite is Wednesday evening, when they have a pop up steak bbq in the street, featuring steak from a local butcher and wine from a local winery.

This makes a beautiful day trip, visiting your favourite (and Italys most expensive) vineyards.  Bolgheri, renowned for its picturesque landscape and prestigious vineyards, is the birthplace of the iconic Super Tuscan wines, with cantinas such as Sassicaia, Ornalia, and Antinori.  Stop off in the quaint town of Bolgheri for a browse of the craft shops, munch on a delicious lunch, or taste by the glass the many famous wines of this area.  Most vineyards have a restaurant too, as an alternative option.

Hiking, Biking & Riding

The Via Francigena, an old pilgrim road from London to Rome, goes though the middle of our farm connecting the section from Gambassi Terme to San Gimignano.  It is a perfect trail though farms, vineyards, hamlets and crossing streams.  Another option is to travel though the truffle forests, next to our house, to a geyser, locally named "Bollori".  This geyser is part of the Parco Benestare, a number of local sites with unique geological features all around us for easy walking, biking or horse riding.

Castiglione della Pescaia

Castiglione della Pescaia is a historic fishing village, nestled between blue sea and green hills. This seaside resort is renowned for its beautiful beaches and large pine forests that continue as far as Marina di Grosseto, where they end with the magnificent Pineta del Tombolo.  Every evening, fishing boats with their wriggling cargo, dock in the picturesque port alongside the many pleasure boats moored there. The village is immersed in an extensive "green lung" with rich and varied flora and fauna, particularly birdlife.

White Beaches of Vada

With 5 kilometres of sandy beaches and crystal clear sea, Vada is a great spot for soaking up the suns rays and dipping in the turquoise blue water. This beach town near Rosignano Marittimo has been awarded the Blue Flag for clean beaches several times. There you can find both private beaches with sun loungers and sun umbrellas to hire as well as large stretches of public beach, all backing onto shady pine woods.

Viareggio

The picturesque town of  Viareggio has been a beloved getaway for locals, mainly for the long stretches of white sandy shores.  The adorable sea-facing promenade is lined with many tourist establishments.  However, things take a different twist here every February with the staging of the famed Viareggio Carnival!  If you visit this area, you will have plenty of kilometres of raw and wild coastline to explore and admire – just be gentle with the delicate natural environment around you!

Beaches & the Tuscan Coast

In our local town you can explore the beautiful Gambassi Terme Hot Springs. This natural oasis is just minutes away from our agriturismo, and provides the perfect location for relaxation and rejuvenation. The hot springs offer a range of therapeutic benefits, including stress relief, improved circulation, and relief from muscle and joint pain.

Gambassi Terme

Situated between Pisa and Florence, Montecatini Terme is the largest and most famous of Tuscany's great spa towns. In addition to its natural springs and man-made thermal baths, Montecatini Terme is a town of exceptional beauty.  A great choice for a day trip from us.

Montecatini Terme

The thermal waters of Saturnia are ideal for stimulating the circulation, purifying the skin and soothing the entire body. The water gushes out at a constant temperature of 37.5 °C, naturally releasing an enveloping steam.  Enjoy the free baths in the local streams or visit Terme di Saturnia, a spa facility nearby for pampering.  Although this is a 1.5 hour drive from us, it is well worth the visit.
